Shenorock, NY, Inherited Home Staging
Shenorock, NY, inherited home staging leads to multiple offers—beginning on the first listing day—and a final sale at 99.4% of list price.
Balance or Symmetry—which do home buyers prefer?
Both have a place.
Too much symmetry can feel forced, unnatural, even dated. (Symmetry has often been referred to as “lazy design.”)
Yet sometimes a space absolutely screams for symmetry, as in the case of a bed flanked by matching side tables and lamps.
When decorating to live or staging to sell, the ultimate goal is to create balance—which could mean symmetry, or not.
Another component of balance is the number, size, scale, and weight of the elements used. Each element—furniture, art, accessories, lamps—adds to the visual weight of the room, which also impacts balance and, ultimately, how the room looks and feels.
We never want a room to feel like it might tip over because there are too many heavy items on one side and nothing to counter the weight on the other.
Keeping all of this in mind, we like to follow the Goldilocks Principle. Not too much, not too little, but just right. Or as I recently told a client who thought that less is more, sometimes less is just less.

View the before-and-after images below to see how we once again use our Stage to Profit® system to stage an inherited home. This system uses just what exists in the home to create a well-balanced design that home buyers love.
Lastly, we believe that staging inherited homes, or estates, isn’t simply about the design or return on investment. It’s also about honoring the late owners and easing the stress of those left behind.
For example, in this couple’s living room, we have kept on display their many souvenirs from exotic trips, along with cherished collectibles and gifts from family and friends.
A year after the sale of her parent’s home, executor and daughter Patty reaches out to AtWell Staged Home once again. This time with her own design question. But first, Patty proceeds to pile on an incredibly generous amount of praise for our work that not only makes my day but would cause anyone to blush.
Specifically, Patty addresses how much she appreciated our assistance throughout the very emotionally challenging process of preparing her parent’s home for sale.
This 3-bedroom, 2-bath, 1,650-square-foot, Shenorock, NY, ranch–style home sells for $422,500, or .6% below the $425,000 asking price with it’s first of three offers received within hours of listing.
